I am stating to worry about this one. I am flying back to BDL on Saturday, and back out to Vegas on Sunday for a speaking engagement. I am supposed to fly back to BDL on Tuesday. I really don't want to get stuck in Vegas (again)-- I was stuck there last year for the storm.

Doubt planes will be flying in Tuesday. If you get stuck in Vegas you may be lucky...step up to the craps table or roulette wheel..

I'm in a similar situation. I'm scheduled to fly out of BDL Thursday AM and am hoping by that time, all flights will be on schedule. I was stuck in the Caribbean after last year's August storm.

Perhaps I should start taking vacations in the Spring..

I would just caution… as long as the models keep showing a landfall to the south of the Tri-State area (meaning southern NJ southward)….we here in CT/Long island still have the potential to see a serious storm. In general (as mentioned above) nearly all the really bad weather with a tropical system occur in their right hand side; Normally, most of these tropical storms that swing out of the tropics up the East Coast have their right hand side out at sea (the ones that don’t of course have caused all the damage…1938, Carol (1954), Donna (1960), Gloria (1985)…etc). That right hand side of Sandy is still quite close to CT/Long Island/NYC as of the map above.

Also, the final landfall track always shifts a hundred miles or so this far out. Based on the map above (landfall near the mouth of Delaware Bay)…the final landfall could be anywhere between the Ocean City, MD and Montauk, NY. So hopfully that landfall spot keeps getting furthur south at each update.

NWS just released this today:

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR ATLANTIC COASTAL
WATERS...SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHEAST
NEW YORK.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.

THERE IS INCREASING CONFIDENCE THAT THE TRI-STATE AREA WILL FEEL
THE IMPACTS OF A DANGEROUS COASTAL STORM LATE THIS WEEKEND INTO
EARLY NEXT WEEK. THIS INCLUDES THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAINFALL
AND RESULTANT SIGNIFICANT URBAN...SMALL STREAM...AND RIVER
FLOODING...HIGH WINDS CAUSING WIDESPREAD DOWNING OF TREES AND
POWER LINES...AND SIGNIFICANT SHORELINE IMPACTS FROM COASTAL
FLOODING AND BEACH EROSION. THE SPECIFIC IMPACTS WILL ULTIMATELY
DEPEND ON THE EXACT TRACK AND EVOLUTION OF TROPICAL CYCLONE SANDY
AS IT INTERACTS WITH A DEEPENING UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
APPROACHING THE EAST COAST.

PLEASE REFER TO THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER FOR THE LATEST
FORECASTS ON SANDY...AND MONITOR THE LATEST NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE FORECASTS THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

What do you mean by this? Do you have kids? Are you going to have them dress up and knock on your neighbors doors asking for Candy tomorrow night?

As far as broken limbs... Last October a telephone pole was knocked down in front of my house because of limbs from the tree across the street. That family was the one of the few houses on my street to not have any tree work done after the storm. I'm worried that the oak tree that lost so much of its limbs last year is unhealthy and will come down and knock out power again.

I was wondering the exact same thing. I haven't even BOUGHT candy yet!

But still, if my kids miss Halloween, they will learn an important lesson instead. If they whine about candy, I'll show them photos of houses that got hit in the storm and ask them if their not getting candy really seems so important in the bigger picture of things. And hey, I'll also ply them with all of our uneaten candy.

I understand the track west, but there are still more models (according to Home - WXedge.com | Connecticut's Extreme Weather Home) that bring Sandy to NJ north through Long Island/CT than show VA through DE. What am I missing?

I wouldn't know what to say if someone knocked on my door looking for candy on Saturday, isn't that begging? You have bigger issues if your main concern is your kids trick or treating when a potentially crippling and deadly storm looks like it is going to hit somewhere between D.C. And cape cod....I'm worried about power and a tree falling on my house and my wife being safe, she is a nurse and has to be at work, worry about your kids collecting candy corn and fun size butterfingers....carry on

National Hurricane Center just issued this:

Looks like the Atlantic lowlands could see torrential tropical rains.. from 4 to 8 inches as a result of Sandy:

That might be their track (WXedge). There is only one forecast to really trust - the National Hurricane Center. Also, WXedge is just another media-marketing arm. If you read through the site you'll notice there is alot of weather hyping. WX edge really grew out of the ending of the weather blogg on the Channel 8 (WTNH) site. Now they kind of have a site not affilated with Channel 8 and they can say what ever they want - lol. I would not trust it. Stay with NWS - NHC for unhyped weather forecasts.
