damaging wind gusts until 8 pm

458 pm edt mon oct 29 2012

...occasional damaging wind gusts of 70-90 mph expected across the
new york city metropolitan area...long island...and southern
connecticut...through 8 pm...

National weather service doppler radar indicated winds up to 110 mph
between 1500 and 3000 feet. Some of these very strong...damaging
winds will occasionally reach the surface...producing gusts of
70-90 mph across the new york city metropolitan area...long
island...and southern connecticut through 8 pm. The gusts to these
levels will be more frequent over southeastern connecticut and
long island than over the new york city metro area

I am looking at a website called windfinder.com, which I use for marine forecasts before I go offshore, i have high respect for their accuracy. Says the worst of the wind is over, at least in the Hartford area..steadily decreasing going forward..can that be true? At any rate, just spoke to my parents who are on the south shore of Long Island, about 25 miles east of manhattan..said wind their now is really getting gnarly.

Thoughts?

Wind is getting nasty here. Last half hour or so. Power dipped out for a split second. I haven't lost power since I moved here in 2010 but totally anticipate that changing this time.

Looks like its not going to be too bad for us in Connecticut afterall. Latest report I just heard was that the worst for us will be over by midnight tonight.

Nothing to laugh at, but not the most catastrophic even weve ever seen in Connecticut as the Governor said for whatever reason.
