Hogwash. Europe has had much more extensive power outages in the last 10 years relative to the US. Italy was out for day back in 2007 (40 million). Same with scandanavia and UK. Much worse than 2003 Northeast grid failure or last years October snowstorm.

Channel 3 predicting that Sandy will rapidly lose strength once it makes landfall and winds will begin subsiding. Landfall will be around 5 pm.

That was a grid failure not caused by a storm but the heat...

Someone asked about what trees most likely to fall down. Cannot say for sure, but based on last years storm and having Pines, big ones, maples & Oak trees in our area, I'd say the Maples are most likely to fall down!

I noticed those Japanese Maples seem to be the most least likely to be affected by the storm, along with the large Pine trees, at least the ones we've noticed in our area, which is a good thing, cuz they can get to be enormous trees and very wide trunks too.

Look out for the Maples, i don't trust them anymore!

Hanging out with friends in Central CT, the winds are strong, but nothing violent so far......
