The roads were fine. I took a drive through Shelton before going up to Danbury, and the roads aren't covered at all. Some of the grass is, but the roads are clear.

Ironically it was all rain, and no accumulation at all at exit 34 on the Merritt about 1:45pm today......started seeing it change to snow right at the Rye Brook/Greenwich line and accumulation from about Mamaroneck Ave. down south on the Hutch.....I'm assuming that it's because it will turn to snow later further east.

I think you guys up in that high elevation area around Shelton, up through Waterbury, to out in Danbury are normally the first spot snow sticks in CT. The area just above the Merritt seems to be the line.

I drove from Branford to Saybrook, and still just wet roads and no sign of any snow here on the I-95 route/coastal CT. Temp did fall a little though - now under 40 F (38.8 F). So far so good.

No. Anthing that is, is way out there and not worth mentioning yet. Around the 6th and the 11th is possible. I think after this November we had and this week everyone is going to enjoy the 50s for a couple days.

I've gone through 1/2 cord of wood and not a drop of oil for heat.

-------------

Temps holding steady in the Mid 30s. Not worried about Black Ice until after 7-8pm if anything.

Temps look to be staying above freezing in the Tri-State/middle Atlantic right now, which will help to keep any snow that does fall to melt on contact. So this seems to be good news for the I-95 urban corrider:

So it should not amount to much it looks like. Hopefully, by the time sunset comes when the temps drop… prcep will taper off fast as the low heads out into the Atlantic. By 12 AM to 2:00 Am tonight all precp to should come to an end. Sun will be back out on Wed... then sunny and dry with a warming tred into the weekend and next week.

For the most part, your first statement is true. However the snow is sticking to roads right now in Wilton despite temperatures hovering around ~37 degrees. Also, FWIW on October 29, 2011 my neighborhood received 15" of snow, yet the temperature never fell below 38 degrees at the surface. That runs contrary to the melt on contact sentiment.

I just came from Oxford, and some of the roads do have snow sticking. I was a little nervous going down some of the windier roads. The rain I mentioned earlier has quickly changed back to snow, too. My car thermometer read 34. I think it could get a bit nasty in a few hours, at least inland away from the coast.

The 10/29/2011 storm was a MUCH longer duration event...this system is flying.

It will be out of your local area (SW CT) by 10 PM (my guess). So It will be a struggle for the snow to amount to a lot I would think. However, as I said above, your area above I-95 in Southwest - to west-central - to NW CT always sees snow stick first, so I DO think you'll get some small amounts staying on the ground. Still, the system is moving pretty fast, so it's going to be a foot race.

I always say, those hilly rural roads in western/northwest CT are the worst in winter. That's one thing I love about the coast, not only do we get much less snow, but when we do the roads are straight and flat.

It only takes 0.1 inches of snow/ice to cause trouble.
