Remove the "Bear Crossing" signs at the borders....and if you are in a high population area, post "No Bears Allowed" signs around your yard. problem solved.

Here's what was left of a car that a bear broke into

Oh and they can climb trees as well.

This same thing happened in CT

Makes me wonder how zoos keep bears and all the other animals within their premises. In the case of the Bronx Zoo, its surrounded by built up areas that go on for miles and miles.

Not that hard. Many bear habitats have either a moat or cage that goes all the way up and covers the top or they use electric fencing or a combination. So if you want to surround your entire house with a specialized tensile strenth steel wire cage that has no openings including at the top or have large electrical fencing or have a big moat surround your yard like a medieval castle then you can stop the bears from breaking in! Also, a fed bear is a happy bear. They don't spend all day trying to figure out how to escape.

A few years back at the san francisco zoo a tiger escaped and mauled people and killed a person. It jumped a moat with a nearly 13 foot concrete wall. The wall was not designed to standards. It was short a few feet for tigers. Tigers have incredible jumping ability. It took a running start and leaped it. Needless to say they fixed it. Ridiculous. There was this ridiculous debate in the media articles whether the tiger was "provoked". Ughh... it's a tiger they will hunt a person like a cat hunts a mouse. It should never been able to get out no matter what.

"The tiger habitat at the Zoo measured 56 feet long by 76 feet wide with a 29-foot wide moat. The moat wall that was supposed to protect the public from Tatiana was 12 feet 9 inches high, which was 4 feet lower than the national standard (16 feet 4 inches), set by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. In comparison, the Singapore Zoological Gardens lion’s habitat has a moat wall approximately 22 feet high."

Electric fencing: Install electric fencing around your yard or around fruit trees and gardens. Electric fencing gives bears a shock, but doesn’t harm them.

Bars/grilles on windows: Bears can easily push through screens and glass windows; steel grilles and bars — called burglar bars — are good deterrents. A burglar bar with a quick release mechanism for emergency egress is $200-$250 for a 42-by-54-inch window.

Chain link has been used to successfully keep bears out of landfills, sewage treatment areas, and trash collection centers. Chain link fence alone has been used successfully in areas of low bear concentrations and where bears have not been exposed to food sources. Occasionally, bears have dug under or climbed over fences to reach food sources. It is recommended that the chain link fence be buried 3 feet in the ground. A concrete pad under the gate may be necessary.
How To Bear Proof Your Property (Chasing The Wind)

Interesting.

BTW, I find it ridiculous when people refuse to adapt to changing times. It’s becoming clear that Connecticut is bound to become part of ‘bear country.’ Are people really going to wait until bears attacking people that were picnicking in their backyards, mauling children that were playing basketball on their driveways, or giving couples a rude awakening in their own beds becomes the norm?

This whole argument of ‘you don’t want to live with a fence around your property’ becomes mute the moment the wildlife changes to large animals that can kill you and your loved ones. Sure, no one should feel obligated to live with a fence on their property as long as the only animals that visit are birds, foxes, deers, etc. When the roster of potential visitors includes bears, you should be required to put up a fence for your own safety.

This isn’t the Connecticut of the 90’s when it was practically unheard of for bear sightings to take place in towns such as Greenwich. Look and behold, its 2018 and now bears are in town too. We have to change with the times. The bears are going nowhere and everything points towards an exploding population in years to come.

Electric fencing around every house...concrete pads...That will look lovely. Turn Simsbury into a maximum security prison with electric perimter fencing everywhere.LOL

oh yeah and when your child goes to the bus stop does that have a fence? Or you go for a walk in the local park? Are we going to put up fencing everywhere? It's not realistic.

It's a CHOICE to have ct become bear country. They could easily be exterminated out of the state. We did that in the past that's why there were no bears for decades. It's simply politics. Dogs are more important than people and the value of human life is less now. Many people like animals more than children.

It's a simple solution. We don't need bears in CT. Just dart and euthanize 300 bears(many of which haven been darted already). Bears were exterminated out of CT a long time ago. Of course they migrate eventually repopulating the area, but it took 80 years for that to happen. We don't hesitate to remove rats, but bears have land rights I guess No one would put up with this 50 years ago. Now it's all about saving sharks, bears, lions, zoo gorillas ect. Animals come before people now I always find the hypocrisy funny. A massive shift in culture has taken place thanks to decades of propaganda on nature documentaries or even worse "blackfish". People even protest zoos or seaworld nowadays for being cruel for keeping animals in "jail", while eating KFC. LMAO I say if you want bears go to yellowstone, the adirondacks, maine, quebec ect. Not CT, Not RI Not NJ. At the very least, their population needs to be kept in check.

Bear sighting season is underway, and you may be surprised by how many black bears are making their way into your backyards.

Black bears are not shying away from humans this season. They are entering into cars and even into a house!

Following the logic of some of the posters here, the solution is easy. Close all liquor stores in CT. They attract bears.
