I am still happily running 7 on my home machine, along with Linux, and have not woken up to seeing 10 on my home machine automatically. Likewise, I've installed 10 on a spare work machine and it seems to be a fine OS other than some Firefox issues. If you're truly that worried about being bullied and spied upon. Get off the internet. Setup your own Raspberry pie network, install Linux, and be worry free.
I never installed this. I never asked for this to be installed. I never made an attempt to install it, but this is what my "update" history reveals:

They've been trying to install since August 1, and it didn't stop until September 09, and as I did a massive research last night, they have been trying to install bits and pieces on people's machines. I found files that I did NOT PUT ON my system, so don't sit there and tell me that they aren't "doing anything". Yes, they are.

People like to bury their heads in the sand and say "it can't be helped anyway!" Our overlords love these docile sheep.

I won't be upgrading to Windows 10.

What update numbers are the tracking ones? I have it set to ask permission to apply downloaded updates, but that only applies to those deemed non vital.

microsoft-confirms-unstoppable-windows-10-tracking

By default Windows 10 Home is allowed to control your bandwidth usage, install any software it wants whenever it wants (without providing detailed information on what these updates do), display ads in the Start Menu (currently it has been limited to app advertisements), send your hardware details and any changes you make to Microsoft and even log your browser history and keystrokes which the Windows End User Licence Agreement (EULA) states you allow Microsoft to use for analysis.
Even when told not to, Windows 10 just can

...Microsoft MSFT +1.37% has now confirmed it has taken things one serious step further: Windows 10 will now download on computers even when users chose NOT to upgrade.

This somewhat shocking development was discovered by The Inquirer when a reader reported Windows 10 had been downloaded onto their computer despite the fact they expressly declined the opportunity to upgrade:

“The symptoms are repeated failed ‘Upgrade to Windows 10′ in the WU update history and a huge 3.5GB to 6GB hidden folder labelled ‘$Windows.~BT’,” the reader explained. “I thought Microsoft [said] this ‘upgrade’ was optional. If so, why is it being pushed out to so many computers where it wasn’t reserved, and why does it try to install over and over again?...

...Astonishingly this is not a one-off error. Speaking to The Inquirer, Microsoft confirmed this is now something they are doing to all computers running Windows 7 and Windows 8:

“For individuals who have chosen to receive automatic updates through Windows Update, we help upgradable devices get ready for Windows 10 by downloading the files they’ll need if they decide to upgrade. When the upgrade is ready, the customer will be prompted to install Windows 10 on the device,” said a Microsoft spokesperson...

...in “early” 2016 things will become more aggressive and Microsoft will again reclassify Windows 10 as a “Recommended” update. Given the default setting on Windows 7 and Windows 8 is for all Recommended updates to install automatically this means the vast majority of users will find the Windows 10 install process starts up on their machines.

“Depending upon your Windows Update settings, this may cause the upgrade process to automatically initiate on your device,” admits Myerson....

If anybody wants to follow this than you need to it in a certain sequence.

1 - Download the batch file.
2 - disconnect from the net.
3 - change the update to *never* update.
4 - run the batch file.

Restart the PC, and delete the win 10 files.

Hook up the internet again.

My PC runs like it always has.
Once a week (for now) I check the available update against the ones listed in the link.
Uncheck those and do the update, MANUALLY !!!

Yep, being tracked. How many of you at least use Google search engine? Yes, being tracked! How many use Google DNS or your ISP's DNS? Once again, data is being collected. "Oh, but Skinsguy, I'm using Bing to search instead of Google!" LOL! OK, Microsoft product - data still being collected. "Oh, I'm using Yahoo!" Congratulations, Yahoo has just announced a partnership with Google last week. So, once again, all of this complaining about being "spied upon" by Microsoft is pretty hilarious when just about everything else you use - and all of you probably use one of thee above - is collecting data about you each and everyday. At least Microsoft's "spying" is for hardware platform reasons. They have to collect that data since Microsoft had to support such a variety of hardware company and products - otherwise, they would force proprietary hardware on you like Apple does and charge you as much as Apple does. And at the end of the day, Microsoft offers you 10 FOR FREE. They don't automatically install it.

Like I said in another thread, I am no Microsoft apologist. Being tracked on your searches is one thing. I have little problem with that. I don't like it necessarily but I understand why they do it. Tracking your personal files is another. It's the same as putting a camera in your bedroom.
Yes Windows 7 tracks you as I'm sure all the other Windows do but only for purposes of enhancing your experience/fixing bugs. From the information that has been collected about 10 it appears their tracking is more than just a way to help make your computer work right. All the experience I've had with Windows it feels more anonymous/private like I can keep it on the back of my mind. A significant amount of information makes me feel like I constantly would have to pay an abnormal amount of attention to EVERYTHING that goes on in my computer were I to install 10.

Microsoft Admits Windows 10 Automatic Spying Cannot Be Stopped-big-brother.jpg
It's too late for all sheeple. Did you not read 1984?
We've had back doors in Windows, OSX and Unix.
As well as all the mobile OS.
We put them in in the mid 90's.
And for those that use Linux and other open source software, it doesn't matter that the code is open and openly reviewed - Because we have backdoors in all Intel, AMD and other processors!

We cannot rely of the US Armed Forces, who swore to protect and uphold the Constitution.

Why do you think we have armed and militarized all other government agencies?
We will declare Martial Law in 2016.

Bwahahahaha,....
