A downpour early this morning in Ridgway and another quick but heavy one just now with those little ice things- grappules?

We had about five minutes of rain in Saguache County today. 0.04 inches registered near my home. That's the most precipitation we've received in one day since March 30th.

Not gonna cut it, unfortunately. Here's hoping for more.

I'm glad ya did, it turned out to be zilch in Fruita, some small 3 minute showers in Palisade and Orchard Mesa. NOW, at this moment north of my house the clouds are darker than dark, looks like 30 miles north of my house. Douglas Pass and the Rangely area can certainly use the moisture.

ADD-----Just now National Weather Service on the tube said 60 m.p.h.wind gusts and nasty lightning in the Debeque area. It's always worrisome to me when you mention Debeque Canyon as the canyon still needs more crews to work on rock remediation.

Speaking of 60 m.p.h. winds, around 6 last night they rolled through my area. Nasty. We finally did get rain, maybe 1/10 of an inch. Not enough. And a red flag warning is up for much of the western slope today.

Red Flag Fire Warning today for most of the western slope. The Steel Fire near Montrose is mostly contained, another small fire near Paradox yesterday (Montrose County).

Two good blasts of rain yesterday around Ridgway, actually leaving puddles. But that's it for the foreseeable future.

The SW corner got several showers on Monday, good for dust suppression. The desert-adapted plants immediately SPRANG up to more vivid color and new blooms.

But we need more rain, much more than this. Even native trees are hurting, and ips beetle has claimed several of our largest pinyons already. Trees stressed by drought are less able to fend off harm from insects.

I follow a weather page and they're saying a La Nina is setting up for this year which for us usually means drier conditions - our 2-year respite may be coming to a close, and we may be returning to increasing drought/fire conditions, unfortunately.

At least we haven't had scorching heat. We've only had a minimal amount of 80 degree days in Mesa County. But the seven day forecast calls for a warmup by Sunday, possibly hitting 90 degrees.
