If you don't want to go it alone there are a bunch of companies on the Arkansas, easily found on google. Wilderness Aware is a great one that's been around a long time and offer good value. Consider venturing north to Idaho too for some amazing 5-6 day wilderness rafting trips (and no disputes with land owners like Taylor Creek situation). ROW Adventures runs trips in Idaho and a couple other states. Rafting is a fantastic family adventure too and many companies will take kids as young as seven. Good snowpack this year so should be fun. A great source for rafting around the usa is raftingamerica.com.

It's so hot. I just wanted to see the splashies again!

We had another good rafting/kayaking forum here too.

I would really like to "modernize those last two photos... but the original quality wasn't made for such a thing... but here goes anyway; (I'm the one in the green helmet saying, "Oh fook!"

I just have to comment to folks that think you can "stand up" in this water as being... a lofty idea at best.

I've swam in the Arkansas River twice... once on purpose, and in the Eagle river once. Now... although I think near-death experiences are wonderful... and I wouldn't want to deny you yours... I would never want to do so purposefully ever. I was darn lucky to survive my 10 minute swim through Down Shoots rapids of the Eagle River near Minturn... which was a one-mile-long stretch of Class 4 rapids. When I eddied out a mile down the river... after it had widened, I made it to shore and I was exhausted. It was like an involuntary wrestling match that goes for 10 minutes straight... while floating underneath the water for most of 10 minutes.

Now kayaking through this stuff? Crazy if you ask me.

The one time I decided to jump into the river, it was off a small cliff and I honestly did it out of peer pressure. My friends did it... so did I. Next time someone asks me if I'd jump off a cliff... I guess I can tell them that story. But once I hit that water... life vest on and all the gear I had on... I thought to myself, "This is stupid." The water was cold and powerful and I thought I was gonna die. Luckily, just around the corner was a nice eddie to swim to shore. But when you're stuck in that eddie current, it's sort of like dancing with a 450 lb gorilla. You may think the dance is over.. oh but it's not! Not until the gorilla says it's over.

So nowadays, you get video of your pics.

Back in my day, it was a still photo like these two I've previously posted.

Sadly, our guide Kim, the one next to me in the back with the black helmet, RIP.

I was in the green helmet, and my friend Bobby J on my side also in the black helmet.

This is 1996, July 4th, Brown's Canyon, Sidel Suckhole...
