Dishonest? No friggin way, pal.

So you think the obvious lack of objective standards for one prize bearing the Nobel Foundation's name is not allowed to tarnish the foundation's reputation in general? I don't agree. Awarding Yasser Arafat and Barack Obama this award stains everything "Nobel" in the eyes of many, including me. For over a century, receiving the Nobel Prize meant recognition for an unquestionable and significant positive contribution to a field or to humanity. When prizes started going out to terrorists and rank beginners who have accomplished nothing but winning an election, then that "Nobel" label is forever qúeered. Frankly, there are better and more evenly applied standards in place for the bloody Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

BTW, they turned off some of the streetlights on the main drag leading into my neighborhood last week. Light poles with two lights, one for each side of the street, had one side turned off. Still plenty of light there. This is a nothingburger issue inflated by the media.

Interesting...

Turn off some street lights because of lack of funds and see the criticism roll in.

Turn off some street lights because of saving energy and being more environment friendly and see how happy people are.

Why shouldn't everyone be happy here...this is a win/win for all.

I don't think you're being intentionally dishonest. But all I'll say further on the subject is to read more about the history of the Nobel peace prize to educate yourself. It has a long history of controversial selections; the other Nobel prizes have by and large only been controversial by omission, not inclusion. Not so with the peace prize (though some would say that has to be its very nature). And be wary of committing the logical fallacy of guilt by association.

Default City removes trash cans, streetlights to save cash

To save money, the city has removed the trash cans.
Need to catch a bus? Don't try on evenings or weekends. The city has cut that service, too.
And when the sun goes down, Colorado Springs is going to look a little bit dimmer. Crews are removing a third of the city's streetlight to save money on electricity and light bulbs.

Is there an increase in ped/car accidents in Colorado Springs, since the street lights went dark?

Nothing reported out of the ordinary...as long as everyone uses their headlights, no worries!

Default Wall Street Journal front page article on Colorado Springs

We're famous: Taking Small Government to the Extreme - WSJ.com

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Like many American cities, this one is strapped for cash. Tax collections here have fallen so far that the city has turned off a third of its 24,512 street lights.

But unlike many cities, this one is full of people eager for more government cutbacks.

Do you think this will help to recruit new employers?

Maybe...I don't think employers go looking for areas with big government and even bigger taxes.

I haven't seen the whole thing yet but KOAA showed a snippet of Rivera on CNBC today...hopefully it went well: NewsFirst5.com | Mayor Rivera makes CNBC appearance

What they did show was okay. It's about time that Colorado Springs stands up while standing out.

It seems like the street lights that were on are going dark. Saving money? The lights should go back on for safety purposes. Dark and dangerous; that seems odd for such a beautiful city.
