So maybe we got off easy this year with Miller Moths, but now there are swarms of June Bugs like I have never seen before.

Last night I went out on my deck around 9 pm to let the dogs out. I could hear what I thought was rain hitting the trees, but it was not raining, and I could hear a hum or buzz that sounded like an old warbird engine off in the distance. I walked to the back of the yard where the trees are and realized there were tons of June bugs flying around hitting the trees. I got hit by a few too, and my dogs were having fun feasting on them. YUCK! After about 30 minutes it got quiet again.

I don't recall this ever before. I know I have seen a few of them around in the past, but not a swarm like that. Anyone else notice them?

They are horrible! My step sister partially swallowed one into her upper throat but thankfully gagged it back out.
All she had done was turn rapidly into an oncoming bug as she pivoted her position in her yard.

Sounds like a migration group or some that got sucked in by a weather system or something? Don't have any here, and I can rarely recall ever seeing June Bugs around here.

I haven't seen any june bugs in my neighborhood, either. This sounds like a weird year for insects, generally -- no moths, but I had the grasshopper invasion a few weeks ago, and I've had many more wasps than normal, too. I've zapped 5-6 wasp nests already this summer, and in previous years I've never had any problem at all.....

I've had many more wasps (yellow jacket) this year than any time in memory, but I have never seen a june bug in Colorado. If we're going to get bugs from other parts of the country, I'd rather have fireflies.

Fortunately we have never had june bugs in my area near downtown, but a friend of who lives further north gets them. They are big!

Yes. I so very much miss fireflies ...

I have noticed lots of wasps - there were so many drinking out of my birdbath that I emptied it out and turned it upside-down.

No moths and only a few June bugs, though they're different from New England June bugs.

The influx of nighttime June bugs seems to have quieted down over the past few days. I think maybe there was just a bumper crop that hatched out this year.

YES...Thousands of them. Awful! The magpies are feasting near Kings Deer North of the Springs. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them and make sure they don't come back next year?
