I was just denied for ant type financial aid. Then I find out the school don't offer any type of student loans?
The lady at the financial aid office tells me I have to pay out of own pocket. What kind of crap is that?
Do I have to find a private loan on my own? Can anyone give me some recommendations?
You can't get federal loans? I didn't think they turned down anyone.
Yes I can but the school don't "participate= in student loan programs"??
I asked the financial aid women if They could give me other options and she pretty much told me to do it on my own.
@ Spazkat9696 : Yes, this is SW Tennessee Community College. It is an accredited school.
And about 14 paragraphs down I read this:
Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis and most of the Tennessee Technology Centers do not offer federal loans because students could not repay them, she said.
^^Good question. This can't be an accredited school. Even if they only went with private lenders there shouldn't be an issue with them not issuing student loans.
Can you use your Pell grant there? If not I'd go shopping for a new school. A degree from this school may be worthless.
Eta, I read the school's explanation. This bull. It's not up to them. I can understand a Perkins loan but certainly not a Stafford Loan. Those loans are backed by the federal government and the school will be paid as soon as the loan is approved and issued. Repayment is between you and the federal government. They WILL get their money back from you.

Something else is up. JMO.
It is a regular Community College . It is an accredited school.
But it is messed up. It seams to me that you better be making less then 25000 a year in order to be a student or you better make enough money to pay the full tuition out of pocket. God forbid you make 40,000 combined household income. Then you are screwed!
Seriously, if you're making say 40k a year, you shouldn't have a problem paying tuition at a CC. I paid tuition for almost 2 years after I got laid off from savings from my 40k/yr job.
You can go to this site. Federal Direct LoansJust bypass the school and take the loans out directly from the government. Make sure you've filled out a FAFSA already though. I would look for another school though. They really don't seem very helpful.

The tuition is almost $1500 per semester not including books. So I am looking at almost 1800 per semester and that my friend I do not have. We are having a hard time as it is. Do you have kids? I have tons of bills I have to pay including full time child care. You think 40,000 a year is a lot of money?
And I do not want to put my student loan on a CC.
