Erik Youngdahl and Michelle Garcia share a dorm room at Connecticut's Wesleyan University. But they say there's no funny business going on. Really. They mean it.

They have set up their beds side-by-side like Lucy and Ricky in "I Love Lucy" and avert their eyes when one of them is changing clothes.

Eh, I don't see this a big deal. My kids are in college and it wouldn't bother me if they chose to room with someone of the opposite sex.

Hey, isn't Wesleyan the school that is known for having co-ed, "clothes optional" dorms?

Do you have sons or daughters?

I don't think it's a good idea if both students are heterosexual. Imagine if they get drunk one night and end up "hooking up". It would be extremely embarrassing for them if they don't like each other completely and a good friendship might be destroyed as well.

I read about this on msn. There are several colleges who allow this, including my DH's alma mater, Cal Tech (not when he went there). The students interviewed in the article said they did not have nor want a sexual relationship, talked about how this was like "brother and sister", etc. However, they are NOT brother and sister. One or the other may develop sexual feelings over time. It could get very complicated.

BTW, my daughter has an apt. mate who is a guy. They have their own rooms. She is getting a place with girls next year; says she misses living with girls.

Both.
My daughter is bi-sexual so I guess she's in the same boat either way concerning roomies eh?
I can see where the situation might get sticky if the kids did have a relationship and it went sour, but is it any worse than two best friends who room together and discover that they can't stand living together and want to kill each other by years end? If it gets really bad there's almost always the option to switch roommates.
