If it's true that he still wants to coach there will be dozens of programs that would LOVE to have him.
He said he was in Florida recruiting. Didn't say who or what he was recruiting... maybe recruiting a job with the Gators? Maybe recruiting a retirement home?
Mack Brown probably is past his prime as a recruiter/coach, but what he brought to UT is something that Austin shouldn't forget.
I think successful football programs - my school included - get spoiled by success. We tend to forget that there are more than 100 schools out there, and the majority of them - even the ones that absolutely suck right now - will at some point be competitive (Colorado, for instance). I remember Texas under Mackovic - competitive, but not elite. Under Brown, they were the best for at least one year. Might have given Bama a tougher test if McCoy hadn't gotten injured. They never seemed to recover from that, which is too bad. Oh well, I guess Mack Brown's the Bobby Bowden of Texas. Maybe Kirby Smith takes his place.
I know he is not popular, but I think he was a good couch. I hope they have a suitable replacement.
You know, I sympathize with this point of view. But I would also say that with the facilities, the money, and the brand that Texas has, there is simply no excuse to not go out and win 10 games every year and be in the national title consideration. Meanwhile, programs such as Baylor are doing far better with much less resources on which to draw.
