And now Greenville get an educational science center at the former Pugh Tire "center" at 729 Dickinson...

Educational nonprofit GO-Science intends to lease the building for a period to be determined. It will undergo extensive rehabilitation paid for by GO-Science before exhibits are installed in three phases. The final phase includes a Challenger Learning Center, which simulates space travel.

After they "finish" cleaning up 5th St, I bet they will turn their attention to Dickerson. I would like to see the Evans, Dickerson, 10th St triangle cleaned up next. A lot of potential with the Tobacco brownstones in there. I know they are/were doing an environmental report on it. If that would get fixed up, it would help pull ECU west and downtown south. And the corner will be where the new bridge for the 10th St-Farmville connector.

Oh, and hopefully Pugh's downtown will get moved ASAP as well! Or a new building or something. That crap look horrible!

It is sad when a random joe (me) "reports" about this exactly a month before it comes out in TDR. I swear I could be their top reporter....lol

We are in the final stage of the "Study and Design process" for the 10th st connector. The engineering firm should be done by Feb/March. This will include all the final stuff that the road will have.

FROGGS want to prioritize the next sections of the greenways. Their first priority is to extend the South Tar River Greenway from the Town Commons to around Treybrooke.
Their second priority is a spur the follows Schoolhouse Branch. Schoolhouse branch is the creek that starts around the new dental school and dumps into the Tar. Their thinking is they want to link the two largest employers (ECU and PCMH) by the greenways.
Their third priority is to extend the South Tar River Greenway east towards the new Eastside park.
Fourth is a spur following Hardee Creek. That creek is the one that goes into Brook Valley. It wouldn't go into BV, but to the entrance on 10th St. So all those apartment complexes could use it.

Those improvements would be over 10miles of greenways.

Also we have some stuff coming from the federal budget:
Law Enforcement Technology Improvements 250k
Regional Family Justice Center 500k
Emergency Operations Center 1.2m
Greenway Expansion & Streetscape Improvement 500k
Watershed Management Plan 400k
West Greenville Wellness Center 500k
Go Science/Challenger Learning Center 750k
Small Business Center Incubator 500k
Town Common 150k

Heard that Kirklands is closing. Wonder if they are switching locations or just leaving the market? It usually seemed to be pretty busy.

A while back someone said that the Carolina Ale House was considering Kirkland's location. Seems like a bad decision to me, if this is what is going to take place. Parking will really be inadequate for a popular restaurant.

A possible Residence Inn by Marriott???

There is a bit of confusion surrounding this "news" but it appears that one may be built in front of the new VA facility on West 5th St.

No site plan has been submitted, and it could not be immediately determined on Friday what the developer has planned for the property. However, the company's website lists a Residence by Marriott that is “under design and development” in Greenville.

Interesting. The more hotels we get in other locations will hurt the chance for a hotel to go downtown anytime soon

There's a good reason they want to put that one there. Residence Inns are more of an extended stay hotel. They'll be situated right in the heart of the medical district which is a perfect place for them.
