And when you decide to stop visiting and put down roots you graduate from being a dit-dot and become the ever affectionate "dingbatter".

Some of the dit dots that frequent Bald Head in the summer like to accent the first syllable which I find highly entertaining. For those that aren't familiar with Bald Head island there's a street there by that name.

That's also the way it's pronounced at the Chicamacomico Livesaving Station on Rodanthe. I guess they're all tourist too? Sometimes you people can be so "know it all" that it's sickening. Southernors are always right and the rest of the world is wrong.

I didn't claim to "know it all". I didn't even claim that my stab at the pronunciation was even correct. (although it is) You need to relax and take some prozac, maybe loosen up those bra straps. It's just the internet and it's full of opinions that you're not going to agree with.

My point exactly. Someone else made a post here that pointed out that the locals tend to be closed minded and unwilling to change a thing. This is exactly what they're talking about. It's your way or the highway.

How about some of these unusual words?

Silopanna
Chinquapin
