We have just bought in Sneads Ferry, and are non-military retired folks with Medicare. I have read that the doctor in Sneads Ferry is mainly an emergency clinic. The next closest doctors are in Holly Ridge, about 8 miles away. Does anyone have personal experience with them? Are any of them a good choice for seniors without serious problems?
A second question is whether you would prefer the Onslow Memorial hospital in Jacksonville, or Pender Memorial in Wilmington?
I live in Surf City, next door to my 85 year old mom. We both see Dr. Blair in Surf City, I think his practice is called Island Family Medicine, just before the Food Lion on Rte 50. He does see emergency walk-ins, but has a full service family practice by appointment. We've been very happy with him. Mom's on medicare, she's had no problem being seen there, and he's referred her to excellent specialists in Wilmington when required ( eyes, orthopedics, gastric). She's had several surgeries at the Wilmington hospitals, one at the general hospital and one at the orthopedic hospital, and we were very pleased with her care. I don't know much about the clinic in Holly Ridge, or the Jacksonville hospital. They are probably more convenient to Sneads Ferry, I'd ask your neighbors there about their impression.
