What do you mean? CSU beats CWRU in a couple categories even, including Law School. CSU is also known for their Urban Planning and Urban Affairs.

Yeah, you're good. It's open admission. Just make sure your ACT is above 21 or your SAT is above 1000. CSU also most likely has their admission standards posted on their website or will happily tell you in a quick e-mail or phone chat.

Some programs in the school are more selective, and others are, well, a little lacksidasical, just like most schools. CSU has higher standards for grad school than for undergraduates, much like most third and fourth tier schools that offer such programs.

Unemployment is up to 11% and there it is SO hard to get a job right now, to many applicants per position. To put things in perspective, a school, south of Cleveland, that had an opening for a janitor received 700 applicants in one day! Don't move here without a college education. It's very difficult, when the job market is like this, to make it without one since you'll be competing with more educated people for any job you apply for. I don't have a BA, and I'm leaving Cleveland because I can't get a job. As far as cheap rent, yes, it's very cheap here and, as long as you employed full time, you'll be able to get something decent.
Unemployment is high everywhere. It shouldn't be a problem getting a job if you are diligent and not a complete waste of a human being. You make Cleveland sound like the worst place in the world.. when other areas are affected more by the recession. I honestly can't believe you consider yourself a citizen of Cleveland, when you deter people from moving here. You are part of the problem of the negative connotations towards the city. Just because YOU had a bad experience, doesn't mean others will.

this is what csu website says
do they have the same requirements for out of state students, because im in minnesota, and im also only going to be a junior in high school, im planning really early

Students starting Spring or Summer 2008, must meet two of the following requirements. Students starting Fall 2008, must meet all three requirements.
  1. Cumulative high school GPA of 2.3
  2. Successful completion of 13 core academic requirements:
    • 4 years/units of English
    • 3 years/units of Math
    • 3 years/units of Natural Sciences
    • 3 years/units of Social Sciences
  3. ACT score of 16 or SAT score of 750 (combined critical reading and math). Cleveland State reviews the writing and essay sections of the ACT and SAT but is not currently using these scores in the admission process.
  4. Additional Admission Requirements for Specific Colleges

Two colleges — College of Education and Human Services and Fenn College of Engineering— have individual GPA and test score requirements for direct admission into their colleges that exceed the minimum admission requirements stated above.
    • College of Education and Human Services (includes School of Nursing)
      • 2.5 GPA and
      • 20 ACT (950 combined critical reading and math SAT)
    • Fenn College of Engineering
      • 2.7 GPA and
      • 23 ACT (1070 combined critical reading and math SAT)
      • Note: For the Department of Engineering Technology the university minimum admission requirements apply
hmmm just a 16 on the act and a 2.3 gpa sounds very simple
says students starting fall 2008 must meet all 3 and spring or summer must just meet 2, what about fall 2011? nobody probably knows

and thank you everybody for all your responses, you guys are a lot nicer then people from other message boards on different cities

i just checked collegeboards website and it says acceptance rate is 65%?
judging by the admission standards, i was expecting it to be much higher?
is college board wrong? or do a ton of people with really low gpas apply and get denied?
if anyone could explain, i would be very appreciative

If you end up decided on Cleveland State, they are doing many different things. Lots of construction and many awesome projects. Check out Fenn Tower. An awesome 1930s Art Deco skyscraper that has been converted into dorms.

Cleveland State has a lot of exciting projects going on. And you are right by Downtown Cleveland.

Cleveland is a very underrated city. Don't think its a bad place. Downtown Cleveland has lots to do, and is one of America's best emerging downtowns. There are also a lot of cool city neighborhoods for a college student to be in. Little Italy, Tremont, Downtown, University Circle. Cleveland has an awesome park system, great public transportation, and much more. Not to mention three major sport venues right in downtown.

Cleveland is a very underrated city. It is making a comeback like Pittsburgh. Now Detroit on the otherhand...

If you chose to go to Cleveland State, you can always just do general admissions and transfer into the desired college when you have a good GPA.

You need to keep in mind what out of state tuition would be for Cleveland State.

Other schools in the area: Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), Lakeland Community College, Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University...

I would say go to Ohio State (though admission is tough) and then move to Cleveland after you graduate. Cleveland State isn't going to give you a typical college experience - almost everyone there commutes.

Cleveland State is really evolving into a great school right before our eyes. They are building many new buildings to replace their older facilities and their on-campus population is increasing. It's basketball program is really exciting and there are talks of a football team in the near future. While CSU is nothing like Ohio State, it is located right in downtown. Many students take advantage of walking distance to the sports venues, concert halls, theaters, and restaurants. I know more and more high school graduates who are choosing CSU.
