They did away with "mayors court" for small cities like Linndale which means the speeding ticket (on I-71 for example) must go to Parma Muni Court, and Parma keeps most of the money. So Linndale has very little incentive to write tickets on I-71.

In addition to what 216facts posted, abolishing Linndale's Mayors Court, was, it appeared, the only legal way to put a lid on the enormous revenue taken in. As a situated Villiage in Cuyahoga County, Parma Municipal Court would have Jurisdiction, except for the fact Mayors Court had Jurisdiction.

As a law passed to remove traffic jurisdiction was deemed Unconstitutional under Ohio's Home Rule power, Lindale could continue it's enforcement.

Now that I think of it, I assume this is why Oakwood stopped patroling I-271. They used to have speed traps all the time. For the last several years, they've been total MIA.

The Oak Villiage official web page claims to still have a Mayor's Court, it's probably if they get greedy like Linndale, the Legislature may abolish them for all Villiages. Once the population of an Incorporation reaches 5,000, then it can claim CITY status.

Since the Ohio General Assembly has the power to add or abrogate or shift jurisdictions of the Court's, it's better for them that they maintain their Mayor's Court branch.

Real crimes don't line the coffers. Tickets do. But hey, it's all about your safety.
When the law changed on camera tickets it required an officer be present at the time the photo was taken. Linndale has their cameras on Memphis in both directions. After the change, Linndale originally just had a guy park on the side street (Avene of Peace I believe) who was just a minimum wage worker that they deputized. Just a regular late model car (Ford Taurus IIRC with regular plates) Hed just sit there and when the weather was nice he sometimes would haul out a weight bench to occupy his time.

Now they built a little guard booth and put heavily tinted glass on it. I never see a car parked anywhere near it though so I am highly skeptical that there is actually an "officer" present all the time. Some investigative news program should go up to it at random times and see if there actually is an officer present all the time.

The Toledo area has cops in patrol cars taking the speed photos.
