Everyone I've talked to cant wait to, firstly, go back to work (whether they are unemployed or working from home) and secondly, go to a show/concert/game/bar etc. I dont know when these things will happen, but people down here at least are not really afraid of going to these things, they are just longing for the day when it is permitted.

I am worried that quite a lot of people here have developed excessive alcohol habits. Cant prove it, but day time drunkenness seems on the rise to me, at least in my little corner of downtown.
Do you live among younger persons, who possess a certain sense of invulnerability to the COVID-19 virus?

The major issue is if large gatherings are once again allowed, will the infection rate immediately spike? We don't know if mask wearing at events would mitigate the infection rate because that hasn't been tested, but spectators can't eat and drink with a mask on.

Perhaps large venues could sell every third seat to enforce social distancing. However, shouting would greatly increase the distance of viral clouds exhaled by fans if they took off their masks. So will sporting venues ban food and drink???

Also, I suspect that many of the persons who have supported downtown restaurants don't live downtown. Until they have a reason to return downtown SAFELY, they will have little reason to patronize these restaurants. There are many good restaurants in the suburbs that will fare much better IMO.

Tourism and convention business will plummet. Rapid testing for the COVID-19 virus of any persons boarding planes and mask usage might salvage some of this business, but who will pay for these tests? When will such testing capability become available, and will the proven inept Trump administration even consider this option?

Finally, the impact on wealth, income and disposable income of the severe, ongoing recession certainly will reduce customer counts at sit-down and more expensive restaurants.

If I owned a downtown restaurant, I would step up my take-out and delivery options, perhaps targeting even tourists and travelers as those markets recover in the months/years ahead prior to the introduction of an effective COVID-19 vaccine. The business strategy isn't profitability, but survival.

I live among lots of 20s and 30s folks. Though there are more senior citizens than you might imagine down here too.

If you think the below W.25/Ohio City view is a lucious urban scene, imagine what it will look like with the new INTRO/Market Square apt. tower rising just behind WSM's famous clock tower center-left...

https://www.google.com/maps/@41.4855...8i8192!5m1!1e2

W. 25th will actually have a mini-canyon effect, and it isn't even downtown.

This is the kind of positivity I am here for!

Nice to see CCF getting a jumpstart on viruses, albeit a bit late for C19.

I'm in favor of this: https://www.cleveland.com/news/2020/...-rankings.html

"The Census Bureau and the federal Office of Management and Budget, which set criteria for defining statistical areas, require that for a merger to be considered, at least 25 percent of workers from one area must commute into another.

Currently, 17.7 percent of commuters from Summit and Portage counties commute into the five county Cleveland-Elyria MSA, with 14.6 percent traveling to Cuyahoga County, according to data compiled by NOACA."

Surprised this is so low, I live near Rt 8 and it seems pretty packed going north in morning.

I scratch my head when I read this too...funny enough, 5 of my 7 coworkers commute from Summit County (Twinsburg, Macedonia, and Hudson) to Cuyahoga County on my team.

Crain's Cleveland Business has served Cleveland for decades.

American City Business Journals is a subsidiary of Advance Publications, the Newhouse media empire, that also owns Advance Ohio, the holding company that controls The Plain Dealer, cleveland.com, and Sun Newspapers. We really don't need the Newhouses gaining even greater dominance of the Cleveland media market IMO.

You don't get to decide those things. I am also not sure why it is a bad thing for Cleveland to be added to ACBJ.
