Well yes, technically every city should aim to be a 24 hour city. But realistically, there are only 2 for sure (LV and NYC) and a few you could maybe make arguments for (LA, CHI, etc). In Cleveland's case, the city just doesn't have enough room, residents, or tourists to be a 24 hour type city. That's not really a criticism though because as noted above, so few cities in the country are actually active 24/7. That being said, I do agree that the downtown area could improve, particularly in the late night type venues (but really, any new places would be good).

Anyway, this isn't Cleveland proper news, but given the importance it's still relevant to this thread IMO. Randall Park Mall may be redeveloped into a center for manufacturing, distribution, and international trade. There are no concrete details but it may include the Ohio Technical College as well.

Randall Park Mall makeover moves along; Ohio Technical College might move there from Cleveland | cleveland.com

If Downtown Cleveland continues to grow in population like it has been, it's getting closer and closer to being 24/7.

Last year, a 24 hr gym, Titan's Gym (home) opened up and it has been doing VERY well. I think there is potential for one or two more 24 hr places (diner or convenience store) even with the current Downtown population.

The new Casino is going to be 24 hrs as well, so I'd be surprised if we don't see any other 24 hrs spin-offs opening up within the next 2 years. My understanding though is it has to keep to the Ohio liquor laws, meaning no booze from 2:30 am -.... whatever time people are allowed to sell in the morning.

To the poster who says Downtown Cleveland can never be a 24 hr city/neighborhood, I disagree. Downtown has been growing by a few hundred people every year for the past 5 years. Cleveland State alone will be adding almost another 1000 residents by next year. IMO, Cleveland needs to double its Downtown population to resemble anything 24hr, but I don't see why that can't be attained within the next decade.

Great posts Costello. I don't know if you remember hearing this, but earlier in the year the 1890 restaurant at the Arcade decided to stay open all night long on Fridays and Saturdays. I don't know how it's doing but it's another step in the right direction.

^Buckeyes440, I read about that Randall Park thing too and that should be interesting going forward. It still has a long way to go but many economic development experts have been saying for a while that the area needs to focus on transportation and distribution given its central location to much of the population of the country.

I just love reading about the cascade of new development and redevelopment in downtown Cleveland ...
You're correct, the "Euclid Ave. Corridor Project" is "far" from being a failure ... it's already brought over $4 BILLION IN INVESTMENTS to the city ...
