Hello everyone,
I'm a young (25) professional male who just got a job with one of the sports franchises downtown. I'll be working a lot and want to stay within about a 20 minute commute of the city. Any suggestions for areas to rent in?

I'm not considering schools or family-oriented issues as most other posts I've read have asked about - just a single guy looking for a good place to live. Originally from Boston.

Are you looking for a house or an apartment? Shaker Square is a pretty nice area full of nice apartments. I know a few people who live there and they love it. There are two trains that run through Shaker Square and will get you downtown in about 10 minutes. There's a few restaurants and art galleries in the area.

University Heights is also nice. Check out Cleveland Heights around the Coventry area. There are are streets off of Coventry that has nice apartments and houses as well. This area is full of life, restaurants, a movie theater, pubs and sports bars, etc. It reminds me of some of the vibrant neighborhoods in NYC, just a little.

Also, if money really isn't a concern for you, there are some nice lofts in the downtown area. One of the executives in my office live in one for about $1200 a month I believe, maybe more. But anyway, she loves it! Hope this helps and good luck!

On the west side, check out the Ohio City, Detroit-Shoreway, and Edgewater neighborhoods, as well as the inner suburb of Lakewood. Tremont is also nice, but it may be a little too tranquil for someone your age. It is, however, just across the river from downtown (as is Ohio City.) I know there are also apartments downtown for under $1000 a month, if you hunt for them.

All of the city neighborhoods I suggested have train access (rapid transit) and nice retail/entertainment/dining hubs. Good luck with your search!

Shaker Heights/Shaker Square area is great for access to downtown plus has its own shopping, restaurants, parks and recreation (new tennis courts, outdoor pool, skating rink, indy movie theater at the Square). There are lists of good rental companies and landlords on City of Shaker Heights - Home,

Good luck!
