Are you looking for a house or an apartment? Shaker Square is a pretty nice area full of nice apartments. I know a few people who live there and they love it. There are two trains that run through Shaker Square and will get you downtown in about 10 minutes. There's a few restaurants and art galleries in the area.

On the west side, check out the Ohio City, Detroit-Shoreway, and Edgewater neighborhoods, as well as the inner suburb of Lakewood. Tremont is also nice, but it may be a little too tranquil for someone your age. It is, however, just across the river from downtown (as is Ohio City.) I know there are also apartments downtown for under $1000 a month, if you hunt for them.

Shaker Heights/Shaker Square area is great for access to downtown plus has its own shopping, restaurants, parks and recreation (new tennis courts, outdoor pool, skating rink, indy movie theater at the Square). There are lists of good rental companies and landlords on
