I'm relocating my family to The Cleveland Area from Pittsburgh for a job promotion. We'd really like to stay on the southeast to east side of Cleveland, and we've kinda zeroed in on University Heights.

I'm curious as to what your opinions are of the area for a family. We have 2 small children, ages 7 and 3, and being in an area with alot of young children is a must. Also, we'd like an area with a good catholic school nearby, which it appears University Heights does have.

Bottom line, please tell me why or why not University Heights would be a good place to relocate with a family. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Well since you decided on Catholic school there's not even a valid reason why you shouldn't move to UH. The only real complaint people have about UH is that the Cleveland-University Heights schools aren't exactly up to par but since you won't have to worry about it I say go for it.

Only thing is I'm not sure which neighborhoods have an abundance of families in UH, Shaker has the biggest reputation for families since most people choose Shaker over Cleveland Heights and UH for the schools. Are you limiting yourself to UH for a certain reason (price range, taxes etc)? You can't really go wrong in any of the Heights areas as they're all next to each other so if you don't find what you're looking for in UH maybe Shaker or Cleveland Heights has it.

That's great feedback, thanks. I had heard from several people I work with that I had to be on the west side of Cleveland with a family, but I just don't like the neighborhoods in Lakewood, North Olmsted, etc. as much as we like University and Shaker Heights.

I was told by co-workers to avoid Shaker and Cleveland Heights. Based on what you just said about there possibly being more children in Shaker and Cleveland Heights, I'm definitely going to put them back into the mix, especially since public schools aren't a real concern for us.

If you're using Catholic school, Cleveland Hts and Shaker Hts are definite options...hell, even Little Italy.

Drive around for yourself...best way to form an opinion.

But if you like University Hts, nothing bad to say about it at all.

For a Catholic school, try St. Ann's on Cedar in Cleveland Heights. It's a good school, in a beautiful old church. I had several friends who went there.
