I've lived in Louisiana nearly all of my life, I would know. As far as what it does not have to be considered part of the deep South. Well first of all it is predominantly Catholic, while the rest of the "deep South" is predominantly Protestant. Second, Louisiana is of predominantly French and Creole Heritage, something than is also not so in the "deep South" states.
I guess you do have a point, given it does border TExas. I guess yea Louisiana is a bit different from Mississippi. But it is certainly more Southern than Texas, IMO and i would always include Louisiana in the South.

Would this thread just so happen to be another way to argue about which states are southern and which ones aren't?

I'm from the Piney Woods and Gulf Coast area of southeast Texas, just 23 miles from Louisiana. It's deeeeeeep south there (crawfish, gators, shrimp, lots of lakes, rivers, and the ocean of the Gulf of Mexico).

Oh, Mpope. If you say you're from the South, then I believe you. At least you were born in the South.

DC area, I would agree.

Not so much Hampton Roads. Its basically just military there. And its way too much like the Carolina coast in terms of heat and humidity. You'll find palm trees even in VA Beach.

I didn't really notice any big change at all. Their voices, mannerisms, and way of doing things all felt familiar to my native Virginia.

In fact, I probably would be more at home there than I ever would in Pennsylvania, or New Jersey, which are actually slightly closer to where I live.

Go to where I'm originally from. That's Deeeeeeep South, more deeper than Virginia. Read mine...

Excluding the actual beach areas, the Florida panhandle is most definitely part of the "deep South". Plenty of spanish moss and southern culture.

To me there are three Souths: Deep South, Upper South, and New South.
Deep South:Charleston, Savannah, Mobile, New Orleans(the Old South)
Upper South: Kentucky, Tennessee, anywhere in Appalachia.
New South: Atlanta metro, The North Carolina Triangle, Northern VA, Florida(technically, by location).
