It would come down to eastern Tennessee or somewhere in the Phoenix metro for me.

Some of the neighborhoods near the business district are hit or miss.

Miller has the luxury of insanely cheap housing, insanely cheap taxes (it's red Chicago administered by blue indianans, a beautiful combo)....it has a train station that'll take you to the best location in the city (unlike union station), it abuts an insanely gorgeous national park (Chicagoland's one and only), it is unselfconsciously multi-racial and gay friendly, it has pretty much the best topography in Chicagoland, it also has a beach that would put every Chicago/north shore beach to shame, with the best skyline views. And it is about to boom.....

Have you ever been to Miller Beach?

The Northeast (NY or Boston) or the SF Bay Area. Those are my favorites.

I'd probably love to be in coastal Washington/Oregon or in Seattle or Portland as it's an amazing combination of green forests, water, and tall mountains. Somewhere over there. I really like Alaska (SE Alaska is even better, but the lack of society is not really my thing) but Anchorage might be too cold. Alaska's isolation wouldn't bug me, but it's what the town offers. Can Anchorage offer enough for urbanity? I don't know. I've been there once as a tourist. If it did, I'd sure be living there.
