i dont see why people complain when these cities are talked about.
These are 4 of the fastest growing cities in the US..... i think besides austin and vegas
These cities are going to encounter public transit problems, water suppy problems among others soon.
Therefore, they deserve to be talked about because they are growing faster than what is healthy for the city
People need to stop whining
Like it was healthy in NYC's history to grow sometimes 3 million people over a ten year period (starting in the 1800's)? It's happened more than once, and I'm just speaking of the city itself NOT the metro area...
Atlanta seems to be slowing down; it seems like Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix are taking or are about to take over and leave Atlanta behind.
It's slowing down relatively but it still grew by over 100,000 which is the 3rd most in the nation over the past year. Also, Phoenix would have to catch Atlanta first before they pass them. I think Phoenix is on the verge of slowing down even more compared other cities.

The West Coast is hard hit again! This decade was really bad for the West.
ACtually growth isnt slowing down Atlanta just became 8th largest metro passing washington DC.
Uh...growth has definitely slowed down in Atlanta. It gained about 60K or so less than the year before. Houston was the only metro area, among the fastest growing, to gain more people this year, than last.
I picked Phoenix, but should have said all of the above. They all need to slowdown and take more steps than they are on transit and smart growth.
I think the focus on mixed-use office, retail and residential developments downtown, the opening of the ASU downtown campus, as well as the opening of the first phase of the new light rail ARE steps in the right direction for PHX.

First off the population of NYC never grew by 3 million people.
NYC experienced there biggest growth in 1890 to 1900, which was 1.9M not 3M
Second, no it was not healthy for nyc to grow that much. I dont believe that i ever said it was?

Yep, Phoenix is definitely taking the right steps. Your light rail line is already almost three times more and length than Houston's (until our expansion is complete in 2012, but still).
I see Houston is being one near 10M one day. Unlimited potential
