These cities are booming now just how the industrial cities were booming in the first half of the 20th century. All of these cities are seeing remarkable increases in populations and industries. Whether you disagree or not, but the Sunbelt is booming.
QOL: subjective
Education: Atlanta (at least for higher ed)
Economy: Houston, with Dallas a close second
Nightlife: I'd say Atlanta but it's really more dependent on your scene
Transportation: Atlanta
Infrastructure: Wanna say Dallas, but not sure
Diversity: Houston
Suburbs: Probably a tie
It's a bit unfair to Charlotte to be compared to these much larger metros.
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

-Quality of life: To me this means how will you spend your weekends? Phoenix is on top here with the ability to explore the Grand Canyon, Sedona, the alpine peaks near Flagstaff, Tucson/Saguaro NP, Vegas, and SoCal, and all the parks and mountains around Phoenix.
-education: Atlanta as Emory and GA Tech come to mond
-economy: Houston (duh!)
-nightlife: I love Atlanta nightlife
-transportation: mass transit? most definitely Atlanta
-infrastructure: Dallas between the freeways and growing mass transit to the suburbs
-diversity: I imagine Houston
-suburbs: I could really enjoy living in Scottsdale, so Phoenix for me.
Overall: Any of them, so I voted Dallas since it's my hometown to give it some love. But Charlotte is a little outclassed here. Should be compared to Austin.
Still don't understand why Phoenix always gets compared to these cities. Phoenix is not in the South like those other cities and is much newer. Culturally Phoenix has very little in common with Atlanta, Houston, Dallas or Charlotte. Phoenix is in the West. Those other cities are in the South.

It has a very similar urban planning template as the rest and in that sense has a lot more in common with Dallas or Houston than it does Seattle or San Francisco. Yes Phoenix is a much newer metro, but by comparison to cities in the Northeast and Midwest so are all of the cities listed on the poll as they were all largely developed Post WWII.

Only doing that because it's a fast growing sunbelt city like the others but I do see your point.
