Wow, this is probably the most significant decrease in homicides of any city over 100k this year. Just 1 homicide so far this year in Savannah, GA.
"Only one homicide has been reported to the Savannah Police Department this year, as of May 27. During the same week in 2022, the department had recorded 16 murders. There were 12 reported murders by late May in 2021 and 17 in 2020."
Atlanta at 40 as of 5/20. It was at 65 same time last year.
While good news I take Atlanta with a grain of salt bc of dekalb and Clayton County. Last year Dekalb had 135 murders in addition to Fulton Co. (Atlanta) 170.
Newport News at 11 after a man was shot to death in the East End area yesterday.
Portsmouth at 20 after a man was shot and killed in front of his children while trying to make a payment at a daycare. Seems the mother of the children set him up; drove him to the daycare and to his untimely demise, only to meet with the killer at a VB motel later. Up from 12 this time last year.
I don't recall this ever happening, but VB and Norfolk are neck and neck at 13 murders going into the mid-year mark. Norfolk is way down 50% decrease while VB is about even.
That's especially impressive considering Savanah had historically one of the higher rates. That's even lower than San Diego's rate, assuming SD has at least 10 (or does it?) and the city population is 10x of SAV.

Yeah, Dekalb and Clayton have been the troubled countries but if you take the entire rate of the Atlanta metro of 6 million, the rate is even lower than the city of Atlanta itself.
