I saw the thread. Good historical breakdown's both between the 1930's-60's and the 1970's-90's.

I do agree that Memphis' reputation is exaggerated and I thought their history was worse when compared with other large cities. Between 1999-2018 it's rate fluctuated between 13.21-29.86 which honestly isn't terribly bad. In my lifetime I've never seen Detroit, Baltimore, New Orleans or St. Louis (minus 2003) get below 30 per 100k.

Naw. Memphis fluctuates in the highs during roaring 20s - 50s era. If the estimates are accurate , it reach 100 with a pop of 162K.

St.Louis just had their 260th homicide. The most since 1993 when they had 267.

There's been a very substantial increase in homicides and gun violence this year compared to recent years. Just take a look at this year's data and compare it to 2014-2019:
https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/

This trend of increasing gun violence/homicides will likely continue into 2021 and perhaps into the foreseeable future.

St Louis is within striking distance of its all time high it set back in '93. St Louis this year is set to have a homicides rate of 87/100K, which is just staggering.

The other major Missouri City, KCMO, already passed it's old all-time high some time ago. Actually, it seems that numerous American cities this year have reached or exceeded their old homicide all time high numbers.

Chicago- 766

30 year old man shot inside restaurant in Austin on the west side.

Philly- 494

Philly is basically within the same rate as its historic record set in 1990( 497, 500, or 505 depending on the source) and the only city with a at least one million people in proper to unofficially top a 30 per 100k murder. rate in over 20 years.

Dallas (12/30)

Murder/nonnegligent manslaughter - 247 (2019 year total - 198)
Justifiable Homicide - 10
Negligent Manslaughter - 5
Total Homicide - 262

Will end with the highest total since 2004 (248) or 1998 (252).
One thing that's different from years past is there are more shootings involving AR/AK pistols.
Shooting victims ~994, most since 2001 (1003).
