Yes, COVID is pounding the US far more than most Western countries but to blame such a spike on COVID is disingenuous. The reality is that the world is suffering but aren't see huge spikes in crime/murder rates like the US.
I think this has far more to do with the BLM movement and it's subsequent "de-fund the police" mantra. Some cities have cut back on police funding resulting in a lower police presence. Also I think many police agencies and individual police officers themselves are voluntarily withdrawing their services. The BLM has brought to the forefront the offensive abuse and double standards applied against AA in the entire legal system but the problem is that now many individual police officers and agencies are afraid to do their jobs lest they get bad press. They are simply withdrawing from high risk areas and criminals and the people in general know it and are acting accordingly.
60 isn’t extremely high for US standards, but it’s still pretty bad. Boston has had a similar amount of homicides this year with twice the population and its city proper isn’t even among the lowest of the low when it comes to American cities.

But a good point to make is the crime stays consistent throughout the other Triad cities with a murder rate above 10/100k people. High Point, Winston Salem, etc ... whereas in Boston, the surrounding towns that equal to a population of 1.5 Million (Camerville, Everett, Revere, Lynn, Quincy, Milton, Newton, Brookline, Watertown, Winthrop, Arlington) have a total of 76 murders. If I include the entirity of Middlesex, Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and Plymouth Counties in MA (An Urbane Agglomerate of ~4 million people) there are about 100 murders. Whereas in the Triad, Im counting at least 150 murders wihtin Guilford, Forsyth, Rockingham counties of 1.7 million people.
I just dont see why the Triad (Specfically Gboro) has so many more murders than other areas around/near it. Its a nice area. Really pretty suburbs and low COL/decent jobs/low stress.

The US is handling the pandemic like a 3rd world country.

Yeah thats why the US needs to reform their police departments? Defund police = put more funding into community services, mental health counseling and rehabilitation. All of which are proven to lower crime rates in every situation its been implemented in. What is in force, doesn't work.
