I believe this is Miami-Dade county overall and not just city limits.

Young children(aged 0-11) are being increasingly victimized by rising gun violence- according to the Gun Violence Archive, the number of children killed or injured in 2020 already exceeds 2017 numbers, which was the worst year for children being victimized by gun violence since the Gun Violence Archive started in 2014- and it's only mid-October.

Children (aged 0-11) killed or injured in 2017: 733
Children (aged 0-11) killed or injured so far in 2020: 780.

The number of adolescents (aged 12-17) killed/injured so far this year also already exceeds 2017 numbers

2017: 3257
2020: 3298

The total number of gun violence deaths for 2020 is still below the 2017 total for the moment, but it is very close to the 2018 total.

2017 total: 15701
2018 total: 14849
2019 total: 15417
2020 YTD: 14699

It's been a horrible year for mass shootings (defined as 4+ people, not including the shooter, shot in a single incident)- 502 YTD in 2020 compared with 417 in all of 2019- and 2019 was the worst year for mass shootings since the GVA started keeping track.

If that's the case, then it doesn't speak well for the metro, or at least M-D county. The county's population is 2.7 million.

Philly will probably end the year with a rate of about 30, or about 470 homicides.

No I mean I believe the NYT took Miami-Dade’s overall numbers and applied it to the city of Miami erroneously. It’s a common mistake made by media sources when city and county services are combined. I think the city of Miami actually has less than 40 murders on the year, which would put it on track for a murder rate of about 8.5.

County murder rates are almost always much lower than city proper murder rates. Miami-Dade’s murder rate is about 3%.

Thursday night, two men were killed during a shootout that took place in a Menard's parking lot in south suburban Dolton, IL. One of the men, 58 years old, was an innocent bystander, whose wish was to someday return to Africa to see his mother. He leaves behind many children and grandchildren. The other, 30 year old man, is believed to have been one of the shooters.

I believe that makes 5 in Dolton. It's unfortunate that town has been ratcheting up even more in the last three years. It was as recent as 2013 that it could go a year in without a single murder. Not only that but more expressway shootings between I-57 and I-94 in the south suburbs I've noticed since last year. Cook County by now seen 750+(This is according to one source that states total homicides at 677 this time last month. I'm curious to know the distribution across the county because even considering the rougher suburbs that seems more than I expected. It did note that homicides aren't synonymous with non-negligent murder, but still.) Chicago is currently at 625, averaging 15 a week.

I see. That would put Miami-Dade County a little over 100 homicides.

I knew the county has some notorious suburbs like Oppa Locka, but not that bad. A 22 murder rate for a county of 2.7 million are Chicago numbers. It would have been odd for it to go under the radar in mainstream media.

Philly never had a very high peak murder rate, so this is actually around its record high.

Rockford, IL- 26 (18 in all of 2019)

3 year old boy shot inside home and later died.
https://wrex.com/2020/10/16/police-3...e-by-shooting/

It's now tied with what it had in 2016, and if things don't subside right now it may very well see just as many(if not more) as its peak of 31 in 1996. Just looking at the crime page on their news site, there's been an eruption of shootings with victims shot just in the last few days.
