My boyfriend and I are planning on relocating soon. I am doing the Teach for America program and must give a list of 10 cities for them to choose where to send us. We have narrowed it down to 15 cities, but we want to do our homework on each before we decide. My boyfriend is in construction. He does it mostly all the trades (but just basic electrical) for residential and business and subcontracts for many companies here in Colorado Springs. One thing we wanted to consider was the construction industry where ever we move. Here is our list of 15 cities:

1) Miami - Dade
2) Seattle/Tacoma
3) Denver
4) San Diego
5) Memphis
6) Phoenix
7) New Orleans
8) Sacramento
9) Jacksonville
10) Detroit
11) St. Louis
12) Charlotte
13) Atlanta
14) Houston
15) Baton Rouge Area

We will be moving in 2015, so if you have any information on the construction industry in any of these areas, please share! Or any information really Thanks!

You should look more closely at all the SE sunbelt cities. Down here in Florida, there's still a lot of construction going on (housing, roads, stores, businesses, etc.) Therefore, your boyfriend should be able to find something. Out of that list, I would say:

(Not in ranking order)

1.) Miami - Dade
2.) Phoenix
3.) Jacksonville
4.) Charlotte?
5.) Atlanta
6.) Houston
7.) New Orleans (I assume because they might still be doing post-Katrina renovations. Not sure though.)
8.) Memphis?
9.) I'll also add Orlando
10.) I'll also add Tampa

If New Orleans keeps on track, there will be lots of renovations, house flipping, and new construction going up for the next 15 years. Most work doesn't pertain to a Katrina rebuild either, that is a common misconception. Baton Rouge is doing very well in construction jobs as well.

Atlanta is on the verge of a massive BOOM.

These are high times for large-scale Midtown development projects. If our calculations are accurate, roughly 400 stories of new residential, office, hotel and retail space have been proposed in the last few months, promising a true vertical jolt to the Midtown skyline

This is just Midtown, not counting Buckhead, Perimeter, Downtown, Galleria.

This

There are more 30+ story buildings going up or planned in Houston right now than I can count on 2 hands.

Lots of low-mid rise 5-10 story buildings as well.

Its build baby build in H-Town.
