What do you all think? They're both state capitals with B1G universities located in their proximity. I know that Madison is quite a bit ahead of Lansing in coolness, and that Ann Arbor fulfills the Madison role in Michigan in some ways, but I think Lansing could take on that kind of role. A lot of other states have similar type cities (state capitals and education hubs that tend to be quite liberal, walkable, and stuff.)

Lansing's downtown is too far removed from MSU's campus for it to really have an impact. In both the case of Ann Arbor and Madison, the colleges are pretty much adjacent neighborhoods to their downtowns. I think Lansing will have to spend a lot more resources in order to achieve the same effects.
