We've narrowed our choices for retirement to Burlington VT vs Ithaca NY.

Me: Jewish/Buddhist, vegan, DON'T DRIVE, photographer.
Husband: Lapsed Baptist, Renaissance man (IT, physics, biology, gardening, architect wannabe, vegan chef).

Both of us: ANIMAL FRIENDLY ++++. Gay-friendly. Very individualistic and down to earth.

Currently live 45 min away from Austin TX. Husband born there. Me: New Jersey.

I've gathered that the COL is expensive in both cities and may be out of our league (dream house = ~150,000).

What do I need to know to narrow things down? Let the games begin.

Actually, Ithaca is right at the national average in terms of overall cost of living. There are some small towns within the TCAT Bus System in the Ithaca area that are connected to Ithaca. Trumansburg could be a possibility in that regard. Here is some information: RealtyUSA - Property - Property-List

Hands down....Ithaca!!!!
We recently spent time looking for a place to settle down and someday retire. Burlington was never on the list.
But what we found in ithaca was great for the most part. Nothing is without its minuses. For us it was the cold weather.

The Dalai lama chose ithaca for his NA location

The farmers market is vibrant.

Because of Cornell, it is a globally influenced city with a good amount of cultural diversity.

We will be moving within the next 6 mos having purchased a home. I didnt think the real estate prices were that crazy considering the market caters to the colleges and rentals for students.

There is a vibrancy to the local community there.
