Pretty simple--
Asheville probably isn't quite as granola as Burlington is in some respects, but I would say almost equally liberal. Asheville has a considerably larger gay population. You can also go outside in December without long underwear......
That should cover it! I'd recommend it if you like Burlington but you'd like to be warmer.
Burlington was crunchy over 20+ yrs ago (hence Ben & Jerry)
Asheville is relatively "new" crunchy but caught up pretty quickly
