I accidentally left it completely off my list...but I fixed it. Columbus is cool, but I wouldn't say it's the top city among these.

Don't take it too seriously. It's just opinions, and most of them are uninformed.

Totally disagree. For many well-known reasons ("walkability," to name but one) both Cleveland and Cincinnati outmatch Columbus by far.

Cleveland for sure does. Cleveland feels more like a 3mil metro than 2mill. Comparing Cincinnati and the rest of 2mill metros is pretty much like splitting hairs in terms of comparing nightlife, neighborhoods ect. They're all in the same tier. It comes down to preference really. Columbus deserves to be discussed

Please don't despair. Without doubt, the Columbus metro has been recognized as a metro that will soon surpass 2-million and thus join Ohio's other 2-million (+) metros.

Nevertheless, please realize that Columbus' growth hasn't necessarily translated into automatic status-quo anywhere near the top of all these medium-sized cities, mainly because (as you attempted to infer) these cities were all created somwhat equal merely because of their similar sizes--in reality, none of them ever were.

Needless to say, a case in point, would be to study the contrast between Columbus and Cincinnati--but, then again, this has been done numerous times before--so why go here again? Thus earn to accept this opinionated pecking-order and not to despair.

^ Agreed. Originally, this thread was about 2+ million US metros. (No "could have, would have, should have been cities," but only 2+ million metros--and not complicated by any MSA/CSA complications and infighting.)

Like em all. It's hard to rank them because they all offer something a little different. Obviously Vegas is sort of its own thing though.

How would you rank them (first to last) in the following criteria:

1. Downtown vibrancy
Denver
San Antonio
Portland
Baltimore
Cincinnati
Kansas City
St. Louis
Pittsburgh
Charlotte
Orlando
Cleveland
Tampa
Sacramento
Las Vegas

2. Nighttime vibrancy
San Antonio
Portland
Denver
Kansas City
Charlotte
Tampa
Baltimore
Pittsburgh
Cincinnati
Orlando
Cleveland
St. Louis
Las Vegas
Sacramento

3. Size of metro (physical, subjective)
Tampa
Denver
St. Louis
Cleveland
Baltimore
Cincinnati
Kansas City
Pittsburgh
Charlotte
Portland
San Antonio
Sacramento
Orlando
Las Vegas

4. Size of downtown (subjective 'downtown' not official)
Pittsburgh
Denver
Charlotte
Baltimore
Tampa
Cincinnati
Kansas City
Cleveland
Portland
St. Louis
Orlando
Sacramento
San Antonio
Las Vegas

So why don't you put Las Vegas as #1+++ as you know it is in the first two category and pretty super in the 4th?

I for one don't think of Las Vegas as a city, I think of it as a theme park.
