Chicago and DC are two different cities, but is similar when it comes to having a good transit system. Both cities have a busy downtown and bustling with people. Which city has a better downtown ?

I like DC as a whole better than Chicago, but I think Chicago has the better downtown

The only U.S. city with a better downtown than Chicago's is NYC.

Yeah as much as I love DC there really is no competition here. DC's has almost nothing on Chicago's downtown.

Agree for the most part but some aspects of DC are pretty good, few DTs are better in the US, Chicago absolutely being one.

Will be in DC this weekend for another look see

I'm not sure if people consider DuPont Circle and Adams Morgan part of downtown DC. They probably don't. One of the other vibrant parts of downtown DC nowadays is Penn Quater in the east.

DC is more of a neighborhoods city than a downtown city. The fact that there is no major shopping district in downtown DC puts it well below Chicago's just based on that.

I absolutely count Penn Quarter and DuPont as Downtown even with the two (i hear) Chicago's is better. I agree that DC is really neighborhoody with outliers such as Georgetown, Capitol Hill, and U Street being some of the liveliest areas of town.

Even counting Penn Quarter/Chinatown and Dupont as downtown (which I really don't), Chicago still by a mile. Both cities are more known for their vibrant neighborhoods than downtown's.
