I lived in Houston, Dallas West Texas cities as well. Moved to retire in Guadalajara area 2 years ago. Guad region is around 5 million and surrounded by small mountains with Lake Chapala about 30 miles south. The difference between the U.S cities and here is night and day. I much prefer it here. The downtown plazas in Guad are on a huge monumental scale way beyond what we had in the states, the structures old and new are mindblowing, streetlife and culture presence down here is exciting night and day. I would hate to go back to the U.S.

I lived in Monterrey for awhile and would move back in a heartbeat if the city violence calmed down and I had a decent paying job there. Houston doesn't have any of Mty's natural beauty, but it affords me a quality of life I couldn't get there.

Monterrey is sick gorgeous. My best friend moved there and I love to go visit. Downtown nights are so pretty there and fun. A little dusty up there compared to down here in Guadalajara. Sultan of The North is what we call Monterrey down here.

As much as I respect Guadalajara all I have to say is "who cares"
Unless this conversation brings any value to Houston and not Guadalajara I really can care less..
And absolutely enjoy your retirement, best wishes, stay happy and healthy, but if is not and about Houston, again, who cares :-)

But this is the Houston forum mate. Shouldn't you be in the Mexico forum?

Mexicans make up much of Texas. Would it be smart for Houston, Texas to listen, learn from our Mexico immigrants?

As a retired Texan living in Mexico I would hope so. Brother they have some things to teach us.I promise you that.
