*Actually, looking at it from the population of a city, i think B-more has it beat, 44 deaths through 600 residents, if you extrapolate that number by 2.5 the deaths would be 110. This is all hypothetical of course
Its cause the water is polluted with pharmaceuticals, long term exposure has altered the population and its collective mindframe slightly. That's why Philly is still so violent, and the metro cities own nearly half the of the top 10 spots on every kind of list that is bad. If you come to Philly, don't drink the water, it tastes like ass.

I will make a correction in regards to my last post. At the current rate, New Orleans could hit 196 murders this year, even 200.

Chicago could hit 488 murders by the end of this year. This is not even taking into account the summer. If I take into account the summer murder rate spike, Chicago could go well past 500 murders.

Caracas, Venezuela is a city comparible in size to chicago and that city has 3,164 homicides in 2011. it kind of makes chicago look pretty nice.

Not this again, you can't compare cities based on size or any single metric alone, it's way too simplistic and only leads to incorrect comparisons.

San Francisco is at 18 so far (including 5 dead in a single robbery).

San Jose is at 7 so far.

Oakland is at...not sure, but I think it's around 30 by now (including 7 dead in a single school shooting).

The Bay Area seems to be having bad luck with the mass murders so far, with two in as many weeks, leaving 12 people dead.

New Orleans: 46 as of 4/3/12. We had a flurry of killings to begin the year and then a drop-off but it has started again. With the unusually warm weather here (that was also experienced around the country) the murder rate is higher than it would normally be.
Wow. That's 2 years' worth of Hunger Games killings in less than 4 months.
