the differences are entirely due to demographics, not wealth. a university educated non-hispanic white/asian/black is probably going to make more money in los angeles than new york city.

LA has a lower overall median income because a larger percentage of the people are unskilled/uneducated immigrants. but for those who aren't unskilled/uneducated the two metros are pretty similar as far as income goes.

Not true at all. You also forgetting that since NY has more whites in general, NY has much more unskilled/uneducated whites who are first generation immigrants. If you use the same percentage of whites that you used for LA they'd average out at something like $75k.

your post makes no sense. the median earnings for full time non-hispanic white males is only $69k in your city.

immigrants in NYC tend to be better educated than immigrants in LA. not to say you don't have your share of uneducated immigrants, you simply have a smaller percentage. it's the same in my native country of mexico or my adopted country of thailand. looking at average or median incomes in these countries is useless if you're educated/skilled. not a meaningful comparison.

americans like you simply have no experience with this. it's because you're sheltered. not your fault.
