I dont understand why they put so much emphasis on shopping centers or malls. The number of retail locations should have been more important and even then you would have to at least divide that number by population to get a per capita. After that is taken into consideration you would look at sales tax and other factors.
People are just butt hurt because their cities' aren't ranked high enough.
This list is not bogus, as it doesn't claim Houston to be the capital of fashion or high end shopping. Houston and Dallas are ranked high because their shopping is geared towards EVERYONE, not just those people with money to blow. Also, it's not like Houston and Dallas doesn't have decent high end shopping, not at the level of NYC and LA but they can hold their own. I'm not sure why that's hard to get?

Half of these people didn't even look at the study; they just saw Houston in the same sentence as #1 and got ignorant. Typical CD for ya!

Maybe "shopping capital" does not equal "fashion capital"? A lot of people seem to get the two mixed up. NY, LA, and Miami may be the fashion capitals of the US but are they still the shopping capitals when you consider all segments of retail? Aside from very high-end luxury fashion (such that you can only find it in a few cities in the US), there isn't much shopping one could ask for that they couldn't find in Houston.

Do you honestly think this list is legit? Have you even looked at the list? I don't even have to look at the criteria, the rankings themselves discredit the list by default. My freaking borough has more shops and shopping choices than 90% cities on that list. Gotta feel bad for San Fran though, they actually managed to get ranked last.
