The point is that it doesn't really matter how long Chrysler has been around. For many, many years they have produced exceptionally sub-par cars. Chrysler is pretty much synonymous with low-rent interior and shoddy build quality.
They've worked hard to get that reputation. It's not just an overnight thing or one or two scattered incidents.
I know there are some passionate MOPAR fans out there, but people are crazy if they try to defend Chrysler product these day's. They've had some successes (PT Cruiser, Intrepid, 300, minivans), but they have had many more spectacular failures and the quality for at least the last 5 years has been absolutely horrendous. It's no secret that I'm not a big Toyota fan for many reasons, but I would buy a Toyota over a Chrysler in a heartbeat.

lol, You won't get any real argument from me. I was just throwing them a bone. They do have some models that are just fine though.

I'd say the ''past 5 years'' observation is spot on. Around '02-04 the Neon/Stratus/Intrepid (and Sebring/Concorde) line had nearly all of the bugs removed, a 7/70 warranty, and were fairly decent cars for a bargain, as long as you kept them properly maintained. The interiors seemed to be built fairly well, but with average materials. My Intrepid with 181k is a testament to this, and my buddy got rid of his Stratus with 160k before trading it in. Minimal repairs, good paint/body integrity, and the interiors stay surprisingly solid. That generation I can defend.
Go forward a couple years and you get the Caliber, Avenger/Sebring and Charger/300, etc. The Charger may be a decent car mechanically but the interior looks very cheap compared to even previous Neon. Driving it I couldn't find a single way this was a better car than the Intrepid/Concorde. The other cars are pretty much crap quality through and through. Then take redesign of the minivans. Scrapping the short 4cyl Caravan when gas was $4/gallon? Really? IMO Chrysler already had a decent line to work with. They could've refreshed the styling and perfected them mechanically but... This generation I can't defend at all.
Now this-- the recall is nothing surprising. They should put the final nail in the coffin already. I have no faith they can improve the next generation of cars, and I'm looking towards GM trucks for the next vehicle. This Intrepid just won't die though.
I have a Chrysler Sebring and love it.....guess I better go check the list more carefully though.
A newer Sebring (2007-present) bodystyle?
