Grace is more than a deposit in an account in your name at the bank. What grace is there if it is inoperative? Grace is the action of God on your behalf. You can't twist God's arm to make Him act (though Jacob thought he could.) You can't buy God off. You can't pray enough, obey enough, or be good enough for God to work for you. You can't will Him into performing for you. It is something of His nature to willfully on His own part to do. Grace is bringing you to where you can draw on that account He's set up in your name. Understand, grace is the appearing of God toward us, individually and corporately, changing us from the innermost into His own image and likeness by His indwelling Spirit. Grace is God working for us.
