well me too. can't believe it. Just registered my car here in IL this month. the MVA/DMV said nothing about a city sticker. Does one have to figure this out by themselves until they get a ticket? Shouldn't this be done automatically so the city won't have to ticket (make money) out of the ones that do not know these things yet? Am I supposed to get something in the mail? Still have not gotten anything.

No, I know you can get away with the city sticker if you have out of town plates but if you are parking in a residential zone after 6PM or whenever it becomes permit only in that particular area I see the vests walking block by block. When I lived in LS I lived within 3 blocks of the California stop and now I live about 5 from the Sedgwick so at least a few people park close to the train and then ride in to the loop and those are the people they are able to nab. But, I really think she (he?) has lucked out if she is parking overnight in a residential zone with no issue.

Edit: This is directed at Drover, not sure what happened with the quote.

how do I get a city sticker? It's mandatory for Chicago residents? Like who was supposed to tell me about all this? Shouldn't the people at the DMV/MVA have said something?

You are required to have the 09-10 sticker by July 1st. You can go on the city of Chicago site and order one, or go to the clerk downtown or buy one at any currency exchange for a $5 fee.

Oh and, you won't last long here if you are waiting for the welcome wagon to knock on your door and tell you every intricacy you need to be aware of when living in a city. Google is your friend.

I now have an IL plates starting this month. Still no ticket for not having a city sticker. I'm parking somewhere where there is no "notice" about anything. So I'm good. I guess is it because I don't park in a residential zone? Is there a notice if it's a residential zone? I've never seen any of this, just notices of "private properties" and similar. So I know not to park there.

If get pulled over, or if you park anywhere a cop or revenue agent has free access, they can and will write you a ticket. Cops and revenue agents have free access to private parking structures like downtown parking lots and multi-level garages and even the parking structures at the base of high-rises, et cetera. The only way to ensure you don't get a ticket is to never pull the car out of your garage.

Well thanks. Who was supposed to tell people any of this when google or the internet was not around? Or are these rules just too new?

hmm. 09-10 sticker? Is that a green sticker and you place it on your license plates or not? is this the city sticker you all are talking about? i could probably have it already when I was given the plates.

^^No, that is your registration renewal. You must renew that by your birthday each year and it is the national standard, not exclusive to Chicago.

ok. i've never seen a ticketer/cop wait for anyone pull out of their rented garage to give a ticket to. that's creepy.
