I need to find a JPEG of the classic 'George Washington with open, extended palm' painting that hangs in City Hall ... that's priceless and so appropriate

The ticket guys were too lazy to even read the sticker
Cost me $2.50

Just print the above out, print it on clear film and tape it in your window.
No prob.
Ah, the innocent old days... Things like parking tickets should be easy to blow off. But the citiy decided to make the a reliable revenue stream and now we will all suffer.

WTF!!!!!!! I just got a ticket this morning for not having a city sticker when my CALIFORNIA PLATES are bright as freaking day!!!!!!! It has been my understanding that only if your car is registered in the City of Chicago, you are required to have the city sticker...

I called the Revenue Department, and they said:
-The ticketer probably doesn't even run your plates to see where it is registered exactly. They just see that there is NO city permit, and ticket your car... EVEN THOUGH THEY WRITE DOWN THE LICENSE PLATE & STATE...
- I need to contest the ticket (can do via mail) explaining my situation and why I should not be responsible for the ticket (including copy of registration).
- This does not assure you that you will NOT get ticketed again. If you do, you'll need to contest the ticket all over again.

UGGGHHHH...

Actually, the city sticker is for anyone using city roads, including Californians. If you are in this city and using its roads for more then 30 days, you are required to purchase a city sticker. If the ticketer has been walking your neighborhood for a while and making note of your vehicle then there is a good chance that he knows you have been here more than 30 days and ticketed you justly. I know a ton of people that were able to get away with not buying a sticker by keeping their registration current in their former state. I kept my car registered to Florida for the first 24 months or so that I lived here until I bought a new car this spring and finally registered it in Illinois.

In spite of what I and others posted on this thread previously, this does seem to be true (see bold text above). Apparently you just have to be a resident of Chicago, and it doesn't matter where your car is registered. Technically you are required to register your car in Illinois within a period of time too, so the California guy is lucky the state isn't on to him as well. The regular ticketers are getting smart about this, and are noticing when vehicles are parked in the same area for a long period of time--regardless of the plates. If you have not actually moved to Chicago but are only visiting, you can contest the ticket by showing you live elsewhere. But many ticketers will not give tickets to out-of-state plates because they are not so observant or have a large enforcement area to cover.

My car is registered in California... so getting this ticket does not make sense to me...

Just out of curiousity, aren't students exempt from any new-to-state requirements (getting new IDs, new car plates, etc)?

It's kind of a patchwork.. Check the Illinois Secretary of State's website .. As I recall, there are requirements for vehicle registration AND drivers license transfer that weren't exactly synchronized ( I almost got a ticket for having the vehicle w/ Illinois Tags , but still using an out of state license) .. Then, thank 'home rule' and city vehicle tax stuff ..
