Besides, I was trying to point out that there IS FREE PARKING around there, it just requires a little walking.
When it comes to vandalizing meters, it's a matter of principle. Plus parking can get awfully tight in A-ville during prime business hours.

True, but I just think vandalism is tacky and trashy.

I think leasing the meters for 75 years is tacky and trashy.

The "75 years" part is what's so awful....
How about a series of 5 year leases? Or 10? Or even 20 for christs sake? I mean, that way, we at least have the option to reassess the situation as new facts come in... but leasing them for SEVENTY FIVE YEARS? That's jumping right off the cliff.

I concur 99% of the time. In this case, I find it at least mildly justified.

I'm with Drover. The mayor and city council are to blame for this mess, but bringing change to city government is an overwhelming task in Chicago. The last aldermanic election in the 46th ward left me feeling disenfranchised. And Daley rarely has a qualified challenger. I'd "vote the bastards out", but feel powerless using the flawed system that's in place. In these circumstances, the parking meter vandalism is entirely justified. I'd do it myself if the consequences weren't so embarassing.

Maybe this will be to Daley what the snow removal was for Bilandic : He and his cronies grossly underestimated what a pissed off electorate can do in spite of a 'machine' ... Not that what we ended up with was much better

For Andersonville, that's prime business hours.

Considering the density of the neighborhood, it's amazing how easy parking is at 3am on Andersonville side streets -- after all the revelers have left.
