I haven't moved to Chicago yet. But if I wanted to live in Oak Park but needed to be in River North or Gold Coast about 2 to 3 times a week, is this feasible?

I will being using public transportation and googled the commute, and it was about 50 minutes, which seems like a long commute to me in general. But I might not mind it because I'd only be doing it 3 times a week.

I was thinking about living in River North (in a closet-sized apartment) but like the idea of living in Oak Park for a few reasons. I don't want to live in Lincoln Park or Lakeview. I know these neighborhoods are usually recommended.

Thanks.

Yes. I think that is a reasonably accurate estimate of commute times via public transit. It is not at all uncommon to spend about an hour getting to work in the region.

Both the Green Line and Blue Line will get you from Oak Park to River North in a Jiffy. Both have stops just south of the river, so it depends on where you need to be. The Blue Line also has a stop at Grand and Halsted that could work if you needed to get to north western River North.

Metra service from Oak Park is generally much quicker, although more costly.

Metra / Union Pacific West Monday through Friday Inbound

It's not necessarily quicker when you add the transit to River North from Ogilve. Depending on the location in River North, that can be quite a hike.
