Amazing this hasn't received more publicity. Even if this is just a stunt on the part of the CTA, it hardly says we're a world class city that we want to show off to the world.

I do not think this warrants a new thread. You could have put this under a half dozen other threads.

What's with all of this "deserve" talk all of the time? It's ridiculous. Being "deserving" of the Olympics is simply not a factor.

Also, even with a depleted CTA we still have a better transit system than all of the previous U.S. Olympic cities. Atlanta? Salt Lake City? Los Angeles? Lake Placid? None of them have good transit systems.

Default How Mayor Daley can deal with the crime/murder situation if Chicago is chose to host the 2016 Olympics

If Chicago is chosen to host the 2016 Olympics and he wants to stabilize and dramatically reduce crime and murder in the Windy City, I have a good strategic plan. He should work in conjunction with Min. Farrakhan's Nation of Islam and give them funding to restart their community patroling programs in full blast in order to reduce the threat of the criminal element on the Southside of Chicago.

This should be done already, but for the fact that the NOI is considered anti-semitic and a "hate group", I can clelarly understand why funding for this organization would be controversial. When the crack cocaine epidemic exploded on the scene in black communities across the Nation, Farrakhan's group recieved millions of dollars worth of grants in order to revitalize many neighborhoods through their security team patrols. Although there were certain instances where certain security patrolman took it too far by seriously beating up certain individuals, it is well noted that the FOI (Fruit of Islam) is a well respected, well feared organizational apparatus in the Black community.

If Mayor Daley wants to ensure that Chicago will have a successful bid and also clean up the city (and even win over certain segments of the population) - arranging this type of process would make the various venues where the Olympics are going to be hosted safe.

I'm thinking that the ties that the city has with another group of "enforcers" will be who Daley taps to make the thugs behave during that time....

What enforcers are these? If they are black -- it might work. If you are talking about sending a largely white or non-black squadron to patrol "unruly negroes" you will have problems. The best way for people to deal with this situation short-term and long-term is to invest not just policing, but in community development which gives people a sense of purpose and control.

Most people whom commit crime are evolved in such lifestyle patterns because of perpetuated disenfranchisement.

If you send in the Farrakhan squad, it will give more legitimacy to the situation of why there are black men patrolling the area versus perceived racist white corrupt cops.
