The closest Best Buy to Hyde Park is at 87th and the Dan Ryan, where Toys 'R' Us used to be. You may be referring to the ethereal 'greater Hyde Park', whose boundaries are similar to those of 'greater Lincoln Park'.

I can remember a car dealership at 74th and Stoney in 'greater Hyde Park'. And, of course, Kenwood Liquors is at 88th and Stoney.

In Hyde Park, that is an impolite inquiry. Like asking a light-skinned fellow if his mom is white. You would get some stares. Most groupings are remarkably diverse and folks tend to leave off discussions of who is in the majority because it depends on time of day and season of the year. Same thing with income level -- There are some folks 'spreading major cheese' in Obama's neighborhood but there are also folks who dumpster dive for a living. And there is public housing in Hyde Park - Kenwood.

As to Kenwood High School, it is well know that most of the student body is not from Hyde Park-Kenwood, so examining the students gets one no where. After dark the area is very mixed.

Default Safe and ethnically mixed parts of Hyde Park?

Hi everyone. I am planning a move to the Chicago area in March 2010. I'm coming there to check things out in a few weeks. I am considering moving to the Hyde park area but need advice on safe parts and borders of unsafe parts. I am a white man with 2 adopted children (that are african american). I'm trying to find a neighborhood where we will all feel safe and comfortable.

If you have any suggestions or info on parts of Hyde Park to check out and which parts to avoid. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you
