This is a thread for all you people who, like me, enjoy (read: are obsessed with) comparing Chicago with New York City (or at least Manhattan).

Times Square is the epicenter of NYC. It's the place to which all the tourists flock, and everybody has a camera in his hand. It's also place of bright lights and marquees.

Here is my question, for your consideration: what is the 'Times Square' of Chicago? Give your reasons for your choice.

There isn't a tourist epicenter in Chicago? Have you ever been to Chicago?

Keep in mind, the question is not "what part of Chicago is as busy/bustling/exciting as Time Square?"--it's just this: if there were an equivalent, what would it be? What is the most exciting, city-never-sleeps center of the City?

Trust me, there is one.

Chicago really doesn't have a Times Square. There's no "center of the city", although there is a point at which the city center block numbering system begins.

I'd have to agree...the city doesn't have a center, but many places that folks flock to in Chicago. There is no single destination that defines the downtown/city of Chicago experience. For example, two places in particular - Sears Tower and Wrigley Field - would be tops on my list but they don't even make yours. There is a lot of diversity that goes into what makes Chicago great!

If I had to pick a point in the city, though, one which captured to me the heart and soul of standing in Chicago, someplace my soul will always know as "Chicago"... It's facing the Board of Trade building on LaSalle

It holds very special meaning to me.

I'd have to agree with others. There isn't one. There are many points of interest and attraction but there isn't one main spot unless you want to say the North end of Mag. Mile starting at The Drake and heading South......

I don't think Chicago has anything that comes close to Times Square, but the tourist epicenter is definitely the Mag Mile. I often wonder how many tourists sit there and stare a the other tourists thinking that the people they're looking at are the real Chicagoans...
