Why does there have to be something comparable to NYC? Chicago is its own entity.

Wow. Chitown2pa - that's a tough one, for me at least. My 9 month old daughter and I along with a friend (who's from Chi-town) were there during this past Labor Day Holiday. It was my 3rd time visiting Chi-town, however, my 1st time touring the downtown area. I told my friend months before this recent visit that as much as I love NY, Chicago gets my vote!! So, this question you posted is fitting in that, as exciting as NY is, Chi-town is far more exciting in my opinion. I would have to say that Chicago's Time Square would be a toss up between Michigan Ave (starting at Buckingham Fountain to the end of the Magnificent Mile) and State Street. Go figure!

I think Tokyo is the only city in the world that has an electrified super-densified crazy zone like Times Square. In fact, large swaths of Tokyo feel like Times Square, and that's scary.

Actually, Osaka in Japan also has that Times Square feel to it. Osaka felt like Times Square X 100!

In Chicago, I really don't think there's anything like Times Square. The Mag Mile would be the closest.

If anything, the Mag Mile would be the closest to Times Square. But IMO, I think its cooler than Times Square anyways. Times Square is a mess, and not exactly overly cool to begin with, never really understood the fascination.

Default There isn't anything comparable...

..in Chicago, and that's not a bad thing.

Michigan Avenue can get a little congested, but not anywhere near on a scale like Times Square.I was in Times Square recently, on a Saturday night, and it was impossible to walk through.

Interesting point about Japan, though; I do have some friends that say that Tokyo and Osaka are even worse than Times Square; I guess it makes sense though--after all, Japan has over 100 Million people in a land area that is just a fraction of the US, so it's bound to be crowded.

We don't need one. Chicago's greatness is the city. Not any one part of it.
